Digital Scrapbooking Day

by Cammy on November 7, 2009

I have been scrapbooking for about sixteen years. I went to a Creative Memories class and was hooked. But what really got me going was digital scrapbooking. The idea of creating a scrapbook page without physical materials fascinated me.

Five years ago, I followed a step-by-step tutorial that was written by Rhonda Stark in Simple Scrapbooks Guide to Digital Scrapbooking.

I wish that I still had a copy of that full-size layout. I ended up creating the page in a paper format and deleted the file. I only have this small image. As you can see, the file image is not of the best quality.

Today, I have virtually (no pun intended) given up paper scrapbooking. I still have a room full of supplies that I keep telling myself I will use. But it is digital scrapbooking that I love.

  • I love being able to find a kit that rocks my socks off and have it in my (virtual) hands without leaving the comfort of my home (and jammies).
  • I love that I can crop my photos to any size and shape without having to wait and see what it will look like when I get it back from the photo lab.
  • I love Ctrl-Z. Seriously my favourite tool.
  • I love that I can easily share my pages without having to scan or photograph them.
  • I love that I don’t have piles of paper, scraps, and tools to deal with. All of my scrapbook materials fit on the surface of my desk.

In honour of Digital Scrapbooking Day, I am offering you a photo album of your own. Remember the magnetic albums that held onto your photos like nobody’s business? Well, I recently peeled some pictures out of two that I had kicking around from my childhood and before tossing them, I photographed them. It’s so nice to go retro without having to deal with those sticky pages. Download here.
