I’ve been gone. For a very long time.
When I last updated my blog, I was going back to work and I was a wee bit emotional about it. Since then…
- I took my baby out of town for a week. It was for work. My Mother in law met us there to babysit. She spoiled my boy silly and I love her for doing it. It was so reassuring to know that I could focus on my work and not have to worry about Jake crying for his Mama. I know this didn’t happen because Jake didn’t cry in Grandma’s presence. She made sure of it. Like I said, she spoiled him silly.
- I got overwhelmed with work. I may only be working half-time, but that little bit has been a huge adjustment for our family. Mr. Messy has to spend his days off, alone with Jake. This isn’t something new, but only a day here or there. Jacob isn’t used to being away from his Mama for two three days in a row. This transition has been hard on my little man. And me? Well, I am just thankful that I don’t have to haul that little guy off to daycare because I have a hard enough time getting myself ready for work. And when I get home, all I want to do is catch up on cuddles and sleep.
- Jacob turned one. Did I have big meltdown and ask “Where did the year go?” No. I know where the year went because I savored every moment. I do wish that time would move at a slower pace, but at the same time I am so excited for my little guy. He is growing and moving and talking and making friends. He is such a neat little person that I couldn’t possibly wish to hold him back. I love watching him grow and feel so blessed to be his mama.
- We had no internet for over a week and it felt like I was in exile. Seriously. The internet is my life line to the outside world. It was a strange feeling.
- Like I was thrown back to 1988 minus the big hair.
- Jacob started walking. This is such a gradual process that I wonder how you actually mark the day that it officially happens. Jake has been cruising along the furniture since the middle of July. We thought for sure that he would be walking before his first birthday. In fact, we were so confident that his dad and I each chose a day it would happen. Mr. Messy bet on October 15th and I chose November 1st. And Jacob continued to cruise right on through November with little to no interest in walking. And then in the last week it really started to happen. Jake started standing on his own more and more. His dad taught him to walk while holding only one had. On Friday he took three or four steps while he wasn’t really paying attention. Watch out world, here comes Jake!
There has been other stuff going on at the Messy house…like snow and ridiculously low temperatures and quilting. But that stuff can wait for another day.
